It is jointly presented by the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies (AAPPS) and the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP).

Eligibility Criteria
  • The awardee must have obtained a PhD in physics or an equivalent degree within 10 years from January 1 of the year of the award, not counting the number of years equal to the number of a female candidate's children born after her Ph.D.

  • The awardee must have done the work to be awarded when s/he had an affiliation to an institution in a member country/region

Channels of Nomination
  • 1. Self-nomination is not accepted.
  • 2. Through AAPPS member society:
    I. Societies with divisional structure (Australia, CPS, KPS, JSAP, JPS, Indonesia, and Vietnam):
Each division chair can make one (1) nomination every time in the relevant specialty, or two (2) nominations provided that they are not all of the same gender.
    II. Societies without divisional structure:
President of each society can make up to three (3) nominations every time, or up to four (4) nominations provided that they are not all of the same gender.

Nomination Package (Template-Based Submission)

Nomination package must be prepared in a single PDF file and must be submitted by e-mail to the secretary of AAPPS and the administration office of APCTP simultaneously by the announced deadline together with a cover letter indicating the most relevant session name of the most recent or forthcoming APPC. The package must include the following materials.

  • 4. Nominee's publication list which includes URL information of five main publications where their texts can be retrieved. Listing of the citations and the impact factors of the nominee's corresponding publications is also preferred as a reference.
Sessions of the most recent APPC (APPC16 in 2025)
  • AAstrophysics, Cosmology, and Gravitation
  • BAtomic and Molecular Physics & Optics
  • CCondensed Matter Physics
  • DNuclear Physics
  • EParticles and Fields
  • FPhysics Education
  • GPlasma Physics
  • HQuantum Information
  • ISemiconductor and Applied Physics
  • JStatistical and Biological Physics
Selection Process

A selection committee appointed by AAPPS and APCTP, in consultation with the relevant AAPPS Divisions, shall determine the recipient of the prize based on the nominations, taking into account the overall quality and significance of the contribution and the creativity demonstrated.

*When a member of the Physical Society of Japan is nominated to the C. N. Yang Award, it also automatically applies for the AAPPS-JPS Award unless the nominator explicitly declines the nomination to the AAPPS-JPS Award.

Prize

The prize consists of USD 1,000 and a certificate for each recipient.

The prizes will be presented to the awardees by the AAPPS President at the C. N. Yang Award Ceremony at the AAPPS Headquarters (HQ), and the recipients are invited to give talks and publish review papers in the AAPPS Bulletin.
